  • What steps should I take to ensure a long life for my recorded video tape?

Sony offers a few recommendations for ensuring a longer life for your recorded video tapes.
These tips can be found below.  Before leaving, don't forget to check out RM&E selection of
blank recording video tapes such as Betacam SP, Mini DV. DVCPro, and more.   
 



Store tapes in their hard
cases




Store tapes in a smoke-free environment and away from food and liquids



Store tapes vertically in
their cases




 
Keep tape away from
magnetic fields




Do not touch the tape





Keep tape evenly wound






Store tapes at recommended
temperature and humidity
(59-77 degrees Fahrenheit, 40-60% relative humidity)





Ensure that all tapes are properly labels





Tape care of VCR as directed in its service manual




Rewind or forward the tape periodically.  Reverse the winding every 1-3 years



Use Sony cleaning tapes periodically




Do not store tapes in direct sunlight
