Optical disc cartridges mounted as a single large volume making file access very simple

The Sony optical disc cartridge system is designed and manufactured to extremely high specifications, offering a reliable, robust and portable media system for the very long term. The cartridge media is available from Sony and TDK™, giving customers a choice of suppliers. Optical disc cartridges are available in 300 GB, 600 GB, 1.2 TB and 1.5 TB capacity sizes, in re-writable and write-once formats.

  • Reliable and robust storage with a very long archive life

Optical disc media is robust and reliable, with a very long shelf life, offering a guaranteed 50+ years archive life. The optical disc cartridge is resilient to temperature extremes, humidity, dust and water.

  • Backwards read compatibility with future generations

There are no backward compatibility issues and no second-generation media migration is necessary, as the optical disc cartridge will maintain backwards read compatibility with future optical disc drives.

  • File format independent

Files are written as data and any kind of data format can be archived for increased flexibility. The system is UDF compatible.

  • Reduces total cost of ownership and environmental storage cost

Optical disc cartridges total cost of ownership over their extended archive life will significantly reduce because of their minimal environmental storage demands.

  • Offline media management by Cartridge Memory (CM)

Basic metadata can be stored on the Cartridge Memory to make it easier to locate data files.

  • Fast access to data files

Using an IT file data structure means data files can be accessed directly and randomly for flexibility and faster search capabilities. This function offers significant speed benefits over LTO tape for accessing short clips and allows the ODA system to work as near-line archive for production systems, as well as deep archive for the long term.
